THE WALTONES

+ SPECIAL GUESTS

7:30PM-10:15PM : £12.50 ADV (14+)

Mark Collins, The Charlatans' illustrious guitarist, learned his trade playing in a power-pop 4 piece on the vibrant Manchester indie scene of the mid-eighties. The Waltones could more than hold their own among the other young bands of the time, rubbing shoulders with the likes of The Bodines, Inspiral Carpets, The Stone Roses, James and Interstella in era defining venues such as The Boardwalk and The International. The band stood out with their hyper-melodic pop tunes and distinctive lyrical style, at turns artfully witty or searingly heartfelt.

The Waltones released 4 singles and an album on the Medium Cool label and toured round Britain and Europe. As their reputation grew they came to the attention of John Peel and fans like Noel Gallagher and Nicky Wire, soon to make their own impact.
Now 331/3 years since it all began the original line up of Alex Fyans (drums) James Knox (vocals) & Manny Lee (bass) is reconvening with Collins on December 21st at The Deaf Institute to play this special anniversary show, recreate their sound and celebrate their amazing legacy.
