Acclaimed genre-bashing 14-piece Beats & Pieces Big Band headline a packed line-up, featuring 5 artists from the stable of forward-thinking Manchester-based label Efpi. Beats & Pieces will perform brand new tracks from their 3rd album which will be released in 2018, their 10th anniversary year – as the location of their very first gig back in 2008, the Deaf Institute is a fitting venue for the live debut of many of these brand new tracks. Mancunian guitarist Anton Hunter brings together eleven of the UK’s finest improvisational voices to form Article XI, smashing blazing horn lines into passages of chaotic group improvisation – tonight they will celebrate the release of their long-awaited debut album, featuring music commissioned by and recorded live at the Manchester Jazz Festival in 2014. Adam Fairhall will showcase his recent Efpi album ‘Friendly Ghosts’ on a variety of miniature keyboard instruments, while the sound of London-based Madwort Saxophone Quartet can perhaps be best described simply as ‘weird, angular music for saxophones, only’.
