Fresh from wowing festival crowds across Europe last summer, Irish garage punks Otherkin are back with their ferociously energetic new single ‘Bad Advice’. A song about “the push and pull impulses of a relationship… the ups –and – downs and everything in between”, ‘Bad Advice’ finds Otherkin at their most vital, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved in two and a half minutes of visceral punk pop.
Formed in Dublin in 2014, united by a common love of The Clash, QOTSA, Ramones and Blur; the band cut their teeth playing college dorms and house parties before stepping up onto the giddy Irish festival carousel - Longitude, Electric Picnic, Hard Working Class Heroes and Other Voices. As their profile has grown, so has the size of the festival slots and the band’s appearances at Latitude and Reading & Leeds last year were universally praised.
Otherkin’s most recent release, 2016’s ‘The New Vice’ EP poured more petrol onto the bonfire, attracting increased attention from UK daytime radio, including from Annie Mac at Radio 1 and John Kennedy on Radio X, while the band also made significant inroads in continental Europe.
Recently emerging from their secret studio bunker in the Irish countryside, Otherkin have been putting the finishing touches to their eagerly awaited debut LP, slated for release later this year. As opening offerings go, the David Prendergast and Jason Boland produced and Jolyon Thomas (Slaves/Royal Blood) mixed ‘Bad Advice’ is impossibly strong. A powerful slice of garage punk attitude and aggression, the single is available on all streaming and download platforms from today
